Parent visas offer a pathway to permanent residency for individuals who are parents of established Australian citizens, Australian permanent residents, or eligible New Zealand citizens.

There are two main categories: Parent visas and Contributory Parent visas. The key difference lies in processing times and priorities.

  • Parent visas – There are less available visas in this category, and the processing time is generally significantly longer than other visas.
  • Contributory Parent visas generally have a faster consideration stage due to higher processing priority and more available visa places. This is in recognition of the higher second visa application charge for Contributory Parent applicants, contributing to their ongoing health costs.
