The Temporary Skill Shortage visa allows individuals to work full-time in Australia, temporarily, under their sponsoring employer in a nominated occupation.
The Temporary Skill Shortage visa program has three streams: Short-term, Medium-term, and Labour Agreement, each with specific requirements and visa validity periods.
- Short-term stream: For skilled overseas workers in Short-term Skilled Occupation List roles, with a visa validity period up to two years (or four years if consistent with international trade obligations).
- Medium-term stream: For skilled overseas workers in Medium and Long-term Strategic Skills List occupations, with a visa validity period up to four years.
- Labour Agreement stream: Primarily for skilled overseas workers in occupations not on the short or medium-term streams, based on a formal contract negotiated between an Australian employer and the Australian Government.
